After Abortion

Abortion can affect every woman differently. Immediately after an abortion, some women may feel relief, while other women may be surprised to find that abortion can be a traumatic experience. Others may have feelings of guilt or depression, and some may not experience any feelings until many years later. These feelings may be symptoms of “Post Abortion Stress.”

According to Dr. Julius Fogel, OB/GYN, Psychiatrist and Abortion Provider,

“There is no question about the emotional grief and mourning following an abortion. It shows up in various forms…many come in – some are just mute, some hostile. Some burst out crying…”

“Post Abortion Stress” feelings can include:

  • Guilt
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Preoccupation with becoming pregnant again
  • Re-experienceing events related to the abortion
  • Disruption in bonding with your children
  • Self-destructive behavior
  • Anniversary reactions

We recognize that not every woman who has an abortion will experience these symptoms or additional symptoms not mentioned in this list.

However, for those who do, the CPC is here to help.
